UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) – French President Emmanuel Macron held face-to-face talks along with his Iranian counterpart President Ebrahim Raisi on Tuesday with the French chief saying he hoped to have the ability to “talk about all topics”.

The assembly is Raisi’s first head-to-head with a serious Western chief since he was elected final 12 months.

It comes amid an entire stalemate to revive the 2015 nuclear talks and as protests develop in Iran over the demise of Mahsa Amini, 22, who fell right into a coma and died after her arrest in Tehran final week by the morality police for “unsuitable apparel”.

France mentioned on Monday that there wouldn’t be a greater supply for Iran to revive a nuclear cope with world powers and it was as much as Tehran to decide now. EU international coverage chief Josep Borrell, who coordinates the talks, mentioned he noticed little likelihood of progress on the United Nations Basic Meeting.

Months of oblique talks between Iran and america have foundered over a number of points, together with Tehran’s insistence the Worldwide Atomic Vitality Company (IAEA) shut an investigation into uranium traces discovered at three undeclared websites earlier than the pact is revived, and a U.S. assure that Washington wouldn’t stroll out of any nuclear settlement once more.
