TOKYO (Reuters) -Honda Motor Co plans to launch greater than 10 electrical bike fashions globally within the subsequent three years, it stated on Tuesday, a part of the Japanese producer’s purpose to attain carbon neutrality for bikes by the 2040s.

Honda, which dominates the worldwide bike enterprise, faces challenges in shifting to electrical, with bikes wildly fashionable in growing economies. The transfer to electrical could imply heavier autos and better costs, it stated, elevating limitations to entry for growing market shoppers.

Honda stated in a launch it goals to introduce greater than 10 new electrical fashions by 2025 and is concentrating on annual gross sales of 1 million electrical bikes inside the subsequent 5 years.

It additionally plans to promote 3.5 million electrical bikes yearly, or round 15% of complete gross sales, by 2030.

It added it would equip its electrical bikes with all-solid-state batteries, that are at the moment beneath growth.

Together with the push to electrical, it stated it could not finish manufacturing for inside combustion engines in its bikes. As a substitute, it was engaged on lowering emissions from engines and introducing fashions appropriate with carbon-neutral fuels equivalent to gasoline-ethanol blends.
