Inflation rose 0.1% in August even with sharp drop in fuel costs : shares

Inflation rose greater than anticipated in August whilst fuel costs helped give customers a little bit little bit of a break, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Tuesday.

The buyer worth index, which tracks a broad swath of products and companies, elevated 0.1% for the month and eight.3% over the previous 12 months. Excluding risky meals and vitality prices, CPI rose 0.6% from July and 6.3% from the identical month in 2021.

Economists had been anticipating headline inflation to fall 0.1% and core to extend 0.3%, in line with Dow Jones estimates. The respective year-over-year estimates had been 8% and 6%
